Teacher salary spending per teacher, by Arizona school district
Safford Unified School District 1 spent $99,366 on teacher salaries per full-time teacher in fiscal year 2022-23, the most of any Arizona district with 500 or more students; the median across all 172 Arizona districts with a figure, the smaller ones included, is $62,248. It is not the salary a teacher is paid: it is the teacher salaries a district reported spending, divided by the full-time teachers counted in a different federal file, without benefits, so it can differ widely from the average salary a district publishes; a district's salary schedule gives pay. For pay, the National Education Association put the average Arizona teacher salary at $54,580 in 2021-22 (U.S. $66,397; NCES Digest table 211.60). It is compared within Arizona only because states book salaries and count teachers differently.
