Who runs PlainSchools
PlainSchools is published by Kiznis Studio. These terms cover your use of plainschools.com. By using the site you accept them; if you do not, please stop using it.
What the site is
A free reference to U.S. public schools and districts built from federal education files: the NCES Common Core of Data, the Census Bureau's F-33 school finance survey, the Civil Rights Data Collection and EDFacts. Every figure names its file and year. Lists rank by one stated measure; the site gives no ratings of teaching quality.
Data as reported
The figures are what schools, districts and states reported to the federal government, loaded and computed as the methodology describes. Those reports can contain errors and lag behind today. Check anything that matters for a decision with the school, the district or the federal record linked on each page.
Not advice
The site is information, not educational, legal, financial or real-estate advice.
Not affiliated
PlainSchools is not affiliated with or endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education, NCES, the Census Bureau or any government agency.
Using the data
The federal source files are public. PlainSchools' joins, derived figures and downloadable extracts are licensed CC BY-SA 4.0: you may copy and adapt them, including commercially, if you credit PlainSchools with a link and share adaptations under the same licence. The site's design, code and text remain the work of Kiznis Studio. Automated access is welcome at a polite pace that follows robots.txt; do not try to bypass security or rate limits, and do not use the data to harass or misrepresent anyone.
Advertising
The site is paid for by contextual advertising from Journey by Mediavine. Advertisers have no say in which schools are covered or how figures are shown. Ads are served by those companies under their own terms and privacy policies; see the privacy policy.
Liability
The site is provided as is. To the fullest extent the law allows, Kiznis Studio is not liable for losses arising from decisions made on the information here. Nothing in these terms limits rights that the law of your country does not allow to be limited.

When these terms change, the date above changes with them.

Who Publishes This
PlainSchools is published by Kiznis Studio, an independent studio that builds data sites with AI agents working under rules set by its one operator. The agents load the federal files and write the code and the text; scripted checks keep each page's figures consistent with each other and within plausible bounds before it is published. To ask about a school's numbers, report an error or reach the publisher for any other reason, write to hello@plainschools.com.
